Yes, really. Paving the full 2.7 km road course was completed yesterday.
If you have been saying, “Show me the pavement”, here it is:
As you can see from the picture, there is still some work to be done before we can use the track. About the last kilometre of track has a significant drop-off on both sides of the track, up to 2 feet high in some places. Such a steep shoulder has the potential to make two-wheels-off into something a lot more serious, which is not an acceptable risk. This means several days of grading work remains to bring the ground adjacent the track up to the level of the asphalt as well as completion of several safety features. The good news is that Castrol has begun the work, and has committed to completing it in time for our August 23 event. And the weather is finally cooperating.
If you have been saying, “Let me know when your events are on the long track”, we’re letting you know. Now it is time to count yourself among the very first to drive this new track by registering for our August 23 event at trackjunkies.motorsportreg.com. We need a minimum of 30 cars registered for this weekend event to make it viable, so please come out and show your support both for Castrol Raceway and for Track Junkies.
Even though we have not quite passed the finish line, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Rob and Kimberly Reeves for providing us with the only road course in Alberta. This represents a huge investment financially, but also a true belief that ‘if you build it, they will come’. I would also like to thank the management and staff of Prowler Construction and Answer Asphalt for making this a priority and pressing forward with construction, despite what has been the wettest spring and summer I can remember.
